868 Gourmet
Master 12 was chained to the library computer to catch up on outstanding homework so we headed for coffee and something sweet. Saturday morning so everywhere in EVP was full including 868. The place is big though so no one misses out. The coffee was really good and the caramel slice was delicious. My only criticism would be that the service was a little slow. Otherwise, I think we enjoyed that time more than Master 12 did! |
Book mark cafe
I think this new little cafe has the best coffee on campus. It's a nice blend and the service is quick at the coffee kiosk. I haven't eaten there but I'm going to try the Japanese food and see how it compares to recent cuisine experienced in Japan. I'll let you know. In the meantime $3.40 for a regular sfw and I'm happy. |
Hot chocolate and coffee in a can - Japan
You can buy anything and everything in vending machines in Japan, including hot chocolate and coffee. The Piper loved the hot chocolate in a can and convinced us to try the coffee (although we held out until the last bus ride to the airport). I can't say it rivals any coffee in a cup but lets face it, when you're cold and need warming up its a handy option. My white coffee was very sweet, which I guess also helps when you've been active outside in freezing conditions. What I don't understand is how they can afford the electricity bill to keep the coffee and chocolate hot when the vending machine is buried in 2 feet of snow ... |
Coffee and hot chocolate - Kutchan, Japan
Having walked a good 1500m is heavy snow, with bags of shopping, we earned this little rest stop in Kutchen. Once again we inadvertently chose well and ended up in a cafe, collocates with a DVD store and newsagency. From our lounge seats we watched the snow rain down onto the cars while we warmed up with hot chocolate and coffee. The Piper was none too thrilled with an expensive hot chocolate, served in a ceramic cup, topped with whipped cream. He prefers his served in a can from a vending machine strategically positioned every hundred meters (or less). The Newby and I have vowed to try the coffee in a can before leaving Japan. Yet another quirky Japanese touch but one that really is quite sensible. Hot drinks when and where you need them in a place buried in 5 feet of snow! |

Hangout on 20 Preston
19th December 2015 4.5/5 This review is based solely on coffee. Just looking for a spot to have a quick top up before the baseball game, we found this cafe. They were busy but found us a table and took our order quickly. The coffee was back on the table in a couple of minutes and, while it looked unimpressive, tasted great! So, a lovely 20 minute experience that helped the hangover feeling no end! |
The Wild Fig - Scarborough
6th December 2015 3.5/5 We were looking for a spot for a coffee and a cake with an ocean view. We found it here. I like the decor of the place, looking like they've collected their furnishing from council clean ups! They pull off the thrown together look with chairs made from tyres and light fittings made from food tins. I had a milkshake for a little change and he said the coffee was good. The tarts were very nice (even though I didn't really want a tart). Sorry about the photo. I forgot and started eating. Oops. |
Sixteen Ounces - Victoria Park
4th December 2015 4/5 With so many cafes closing just after lunch it's hard to find something selling coffee and a wee puffy toot (that's Dundonian for a cake with cream) in the mid afternoon. He had honey cake and gave it the thumbs up but I think he had puffy toot envy for my raw lemon slice. He certainly didn't say no when I offered him a try! The coffee was good, possibly looking a bit prettier than it tasted but don't hold that against them, my afternoon taste buds differ to my morning ones. |
Gelare - Mt Lawley
21st November 4/5 Good place to cool down on a blazing hot Saturday afternoon. We strolled in before the vegetarian started work at Swish n Chips (yes, I'm aware of the irony in that) and had ice creams (the kids), coffee of the iced kind (me) and berry waffles (him). No complaints from any of us. |
Kalahari A Taste of Africa - Willeton
28th November 2015 4.5/5 This was a super little find this morning while the second born trained for baseball. The coffee was good, no doubt an African blend. The decor was themed (obviously African) and the crockery and table decorations were in character too. Our order was bought to us on a tray. What a great touch. Haven't seen anyone use a wooden tray with a tray mat for years! We only had coffee but the service was polite and quick. Makes me even more sure I want to visit Africa before I visit my maker. |
E-Sense - Perth CBD
27th November 2015 3/5 I don't normally rate a place just from a take away sfw. Let's face it, I drink so much I'd be tapping the keyboard all day (oh wait, I do that anyway). But I just bought coffee here and got charged 50c extra to PayPass. I thought we were all supposed to be going cashless? You can't tell me that transaction racks up a fee equivalent to 12.5% of the purchase. If anything my cashless transaction saves them time and money and makes them less vulnerable to robbery. Fortunately the coffee is ok but I won't go back, in principle. Am I being a cheapskate? |
Tarts - Northbridge
27th November 2015 4/5 Tart by name but sweet by nature. Has a sweet, as in quaint feel. We had sweets. Rocky road for me. Very very sweet. Cherry and almond tart (not so tart, more so sweet). For the first time ever my sfw was decaf! Huge day in my life but made easier by a good experience. I'd love to go back there in the morning when caffeine levels don't matter. Also keen to try the dinner menu and experience the inside and garden area. A sweet afternoon experience with the sweet man in my life. |
Louis Baxters - Subiaco
Always 4.5/5 The best coffee in Subi Square. Quick, hot, great service and if you want to sit and relax its a great little spot. I love the mural on the wall (check the web site for a sneak peak). My Monday and Tuesday coffee preference. |
Bravos - East Victoria Park
November 2015 4.5/5 Yummo! This is a really contemporary, light and open place tohave a coffee on Saturday afternoon. Couldn't fault a thing except the slightly dry rocky road. Won't hold that against them. I think you'll like it. Especially if you like the yellow and brown retro look. Try it for sure. |
The Imp - East Victoria Park
4.5/5 14th November 2015 Just had a super strawberry and white chocolate cheese cake with my standard skinny fw. Great little place, friendly service, contemporary feel. It's on the great place to go list. |
